Recommended Skills
This is a list of skills that can be acquired early on which may help you in your playthrough of Starfield.
- Fitness – You will be doing a lot of running in Starfield, so increasing your oxygen capacity will go a long way to making it less frustrating while traveling long distances on the surface.
- Stealth – Putting a point into Stealth will give you a stealth meter, letting you know when you are visible to enemies.
- Weight Lifting – This skill will increase your carrying capacity over time. If you run out of space, transfer items into the storage containers of your ship or trade with your companion so they will carry some of the burden.
- Persuasion – Persuasion will help you get through some tricky dialog options without resorting to violence. During the main mission, No Sudden Moves, you need to board an enemy ship. You can either disable the engines or talk your way onboard.
- Ballistics – The Ballistics skill will give you increased damage for all weapons that fire rounds. It will not lock you into a specific weapon type like some of the other combat skills.
- Boost Pack Training – This skill will allow you to use boost packs by giving you additional lift when you press Y.
- Piloting – The Piloting skill will increase the quality of ships you can fly as it levels up.
- Security – The Security trait will help break into locked doors and containers throughout Starfield. Placing at least a point into Security will help open these locks. As it levels up, you can pick more difficult locks.
- Targeting Control Systems – This skill will allow you to target specific systems on an enemy ship, like the engines.

General Tips
- Stick to the main missions early on. They will unlock new abilities and companions which will help with all side content later.

- Pick every lock you can as you explore. These will add to the Cyber Jockey achievement.

Conditional Achievements
I Use Them For Smuggling
10G – Successfully Smuggle Contraband
Make sure you have a method to avoid being scanned with your ship. Installing a shielded cargo hold from The Red Mile or The Key helps. If you have the side mission, Mantis, the ship you earn for completing it already has a shielded cargo hold installed.
Then, fly to Neon and purchase some Aurora from the bartender in the Astral Lounge. Walk back toward your ship, but don’t cross the scanners with the Aurora in you possession. Instead, open the Pause – Ship (press Down/Left) – Cargo Hold (X) – Inventory (LB) and scroll down to Aid. Transfer all Aurora to your ship. Create a manual save, since the next step is random. Fly to just outside Jemison in the Alpha Centauri sector and wait to be scanned. If you succeed, the achievement will pop. However, if you fail, load the last save and trying being scanned again.
Chief Engineer
10G – Modify a Ship
At a spaceport, talk to the local Ship Services Technician and select “I’d like to view and modify my ships.” On the ship menu, press A to enter upgrade mode. Select a part to upgrade followed by the change. Then, back out of the menu and confirm your changes to unlock Chief Engineer.

Outposts
Home Sweet Home
10G – Build an Outpost
Find a location where you would like to build your first outpost. Then, use the Scanner (LB) followed by pressing X to enter the Outpost Mode. Choose a location for the Outpost Beacon and press A to confirm its placement, unlocking the Home Sweet Home achievement.

Industrialist
20G – Produce 500 Total Resources from Outposts
Once the beacon from Home Sweet Home is set, press LB/RB on the build menu to cycle through categories until you reach Extractors. Depending on the environment type and the local resources, place 4 extractors around the area. Next to each extractor, place a power source (also dependent on the environment). Then, build 2 storage containers and connect 2 extractors to each by pressing RT on the extractor and connecting it to the storage container. Once everything is in place, board your ship, interact with the bed, and sleep for 48 hours. The achievement should unlock.
If you’re building your outpost on Jemison near New Atlantis, the environment is good for using Water Vapor Extractors, Wind Turbines, and Liquid Storage containers.

Shipping Magnate
10G – Connect 5 Outposts with Cargo Links
The Shipping Magnate achievement description is not written to accurately reflect how to unlock the achievement. It requires a total of 6 outposts, not 5 outposts to pull off. Before starting on the achievement make a manual save, go to a resource/materials vendor, like Jemison Mercantile shop in the New Atlantis star port. From there, purchase the following materials. If the vendor runs out. Sleep for 48 hours and return to buy more until you hit the needed quantities.
- 72x Aluminum
- 12x Beryllium
- 120x Iron
- 12x Zero Wire

Outposts
Once you have all required materials, open the planetary map and land in an area outside civilization. This can easily be done on Jemison where New Atlantis is located. Exit your ship, press LB to bring up the Scanner, press X to enter the outpost build menu, and place an Outpost Beacon. Then, press LB/RB to scroll over to the Misc. build category and build a single Cargo Link. These are massive structures that take up a large piece of real-estate.
With the Cargo Link down, run outside the buildable area of the outpost until you are able to place another Outpost Beacon. Do so, followed by another Cargo Link. This time, use the stairs on the outside of the Cargo Link to reach the roof and interact with the terminal. Select the Cargo Link node under Outpost 1 and press A to connect the two outposts. If done correctly, you should see a green icon indicating the outposts are connected.

Repeat the process building a total of 6 outposts with Cargo Links. The 4th outpost should link to the 3rd, and the 6th outpost should link to the 5th. After links have been established (3 in total), the Shipping Magnate achievement will unlock. Feel free to reload your save file and sell off the resources.
Collection Achievements
Fleet Commander
20G – Collect 10 Ships
If you complete the main and faction missions, you should have at least 5 ships. 1 from the main missions themselves, 1 purchased to jump 21LY, 1 from The Hammer Falls (Freestar Rangers), 1 from Echoes of the Past (Crimson Fleet), and 1 from The Best There Is (Crimson Fleet). Additionally, you can get free ships by completing certain side missions, like Mantis. The rest can be purchased from Ship Services Technicians at star ports. The one in New Atlantis often has a few ships for less than 150k each. Track progress under Pause – Status (Y) – Ship – Max Ships Owned.
War of Angels
20G – Collect 20 Quantum Essence
Collect 20 Quantum Essence from Starborn Guardians, often found protecting temples with powers. Following the Power From Beyond questlines under Missions – Misc. is a quick way to farm these while acquiring new powers. You will also encounter waves of Starborn during the last few main missions. Track how many you currently have under Pause – Powers (Press Up). On the powers screen, there is a count in the bottom left corner showing how many Quantum Essence you are currently holding.

Thirst for Knowledge
10G – Read 20 Skill Magazines
As you explore settlements in Starfield, keep an eye out for numbered magazines which will permanently increase your stats. Collect 20 skill magazines, and the Thirst for Knowledge achievement will unlock. Track progress under Pause – Status (Y) – General – Magazines Found.
Refer to the Starfield Magazine Locations Guide for a list of known magazines and where to find them.
Tech
Cyber Jockey
30G – Bypass 50 Digital Locks
Spend at least 1 skill point on the Security skill. This will give you access to unlocking doors and containers. With the first level of the skill, a pin will be highlighted in blue if it can be used on the current outer layer of the lock. Try to match pieces that contain the most pins first, and look ahead to make sure you won’t need a piece deeper in the lock. Once 50 locks have been cracked, the Cyber Jockey achievement will unlock. Track progress under Pause – Status (Y) – Crime – Locks Picked.

Jacked In
20G – Access 50 Computers
Watch out for computer terminals that you can interact with as you explore the worlds of Starfield. You will need to interact with 50 computers for this achievement.
Missions/Tasks
Fixer
30G – Complete 30 Activities
Activities are small tasks that usually involve talking to a specific character or companion. These will pick up automatically as you play the game. Progressing companion dialog is required for the Starcrossed achievement. Track progress under Pause – Status (Y) – Mission – Activities Completed.
Privateer
10G – Complete 30 Terminal or Misc. Missions
Faction missions, random missions given by NPCs, and missions picked up by terminals all count as side quests. Complete 30 side quests over the course of your playthrough and the achievement will pop. This should unlock naturally by doing the missions for the 4 factions. Track progress under Pause – Status (Y) – Mission – Side Quests Completed.
Companions
The Family You Choose
20G – Recruit 10 Separate Companions
You will need to recruit a total of 10 companions, including those who join your squad through the main mission playthrough (Andreja, Barrett, Heller, Lin, Sam Coe, Sarah Morgan, and Vasco). If you want to simply finish off the achievement, create a manual save before going into The Viewport bar in the star port of New Atlantis. Then, talk to 3-4 individuals inside and offer them work. Once the last one is hired, the achievement will unlock and you can reload your save.
Starcrossed
20G – Reach Maximum Relationship Level with a Companion
Choose one of the core companions from Constellation (Andreja, Barrett, Sam Coe, or Sarah Morgan) and make sure they are with you throughout your playthrough with the exception of missions that require other companions for a brief time. As you travel with your companion, save before every interaction with NPCs. If you happen to make a choice they don’t like, reload the save and try again. The goal is to only do things in their presence that make them like you more over time. If you are ever given dialog options to flirt, take them.
About 35 hours into the game, your companion will ask you to assist them with a personal quest. After helping them with their mission, you will have additional dialog options that lead to offer to commit to them fully. Once the arrangements are made and the wedding ceremony is completed, the Starcrossed achievement will unlock.

Exploration Achievements
Boots on the Ground
20G – Land on 100 Planets
After completing all mission achievements, focus on exploration. See The Stars My Destination for details about identifying new systems that have not been visited. As you visit each new system, land on the first planet/moon you see (you don’t need to get out of your ship for it to count). Once you have landed on 100 planets or moons, the Boots on the Ground achievement will pop. You will likely have about half of this completed by the time you finish all missions. Track progress under Pause – Status (Y) – Exploration – Planets Landed On.
Stellar Cartography
10G – Visit 20 Star Systems
See The Start My Destination for details. This will unlock during the main mission playthrough. Track progress under Pause – Status (Y) – Exploration – Systems Visited.
The Stars My Destination
20G – Visit all Star Systems
At the end of the game, you will need to visit all 120 star systems and will need a ship with a minimum just distance of 28LY. This can be tricky to track since star systems can be hidden behind each other. From the starmap, zoom all the way out. Systems you have visited will shine bright and those you haven’t will be dim. Red systems are too far to jump to without first visiting systems along the path.

When you highlight a star system, you will know it has been visited if the left panel of the UI has details about the star system, not just the name. If you select a cluster of system (often 2 or 3 stack on top of each other), press A to select the cluster, then D-Pad Up/Down to cycle between them. The ones you’re missing are likely hidden in a group. Track progress under Pause – Status (Y) – Exploration – Systems Visited.

For example, select Barrels and install a Long Barrel, followed by a Standard Barrel, then another Long Barrel. Repeat the process until you run out of materials or the achievement pops.
