Welcome to the Mortal Shell 2 Monolith boss guide. This guide walks through how to defeat the Monolith boss needed for the Praise him! achievement/trophy.

Monolith Boss
Setup & Build
If you’re using a controller, it’s recommended to do the following: remap the Guard button to A/X and make sure the controller is plugged in. Face buttons are easier to press in rapid succession then bumpers or triggers. Plugging in the controller gets rid of a small delay with Bluetooth.
It is recommended you use Tiel’s shell for his improved ability to dodge and do additional damage to the back of the Monolith. Focus on Tarstones that increase damage output. Put points into skills that reduce incoming damage, improve dodge, or improve break buildup.
Primary Gear & Tarstones used in the video:
- Axatana +16
- Untarnished Seal
- Grisha Remnant in passive slot
- Voltaic Crown Level 3
- Duality Stone Level 3
- Auspicious Stone Level 3
- Retribution Stone Level 3
- Berserker’s Stone Level 3
- Headman’s Stone Level 2
Phase 1
During the 1st phase, try to guard as many attacks as possible. The goal is to stagger the Monolith before it reaches a free riposte at 90% health.
Monolith Attacks:
- Closed Double Slam – The boss will close up and slam forward twice. Guard both hits.
- Vertical Slam – When the Monolith slams directly down, guard the attack.
- Swinging Attack – Dodge to the side when you see the Monolith pull back.
Try to get 1-2 hits between attacks. Building up the break meter is key to taking down the Monolith during this phase. Phase 2 will begin after the free riposte at 90% health. Try to get a few free hits in on the side before triggering the riposte animation.
Phase 2
The boss will add a few new attacks into the mix. One of the new attacks will leave you a large window for free attacks.
New Attacks:
- Side Roll – When the boss flips onto its side, dodge back and away. It will roll 3 times.
- Frontal Lasers – The Monolith will fire multiple lasers directly in front of it. Dodge through the lasers and run to the back of the boss for free hits.
- Walking Swing – If the boss starts randomly walking around while swinging, dodge away and stay back until it completes.
Make sure you are wearing a shell before completing the free riposte at 50% health. You will need a shell to survive a new devastating attack in phase 3.
Phase 3
This is where the randomness may help or hurt you. There is a new attack that fires lasers in all directions. It is very difficult to avoid and you will likely get hit, knocking your shell off or killing you in harbinger form. This is why it is crucial you have a shell active before the free riposte at 50% health.
New Attacks:
- 360-Degree Lasers – Dodge through the lasers as well as you can. You will likely get hit. When the lasers start to slow down, look for an opening for some hits.
Defeating the Monolith boss will unlock the Praise him! achievement or trophy.
Good luck with the boss. It took me dozens of tries to take it down the 1st time. It was much easier in NG+.
