Mmm, So Tasty!
5G – Successfully cooked a well-done steak for the first time.
Make sure you have raw meat in your inventory. From the quick access menu (hold LB/L1), scroll (B/Circle) to and activate the Portable BBQ Grill. Choose Grill Meat and press A/X just after your hunter flips the meat.

Fishing
Angling for a Bite
5G – Successfully fished for the first time.
During chapter 1, Jack will give you Hunting Tools which include a fishing rod. Look for a body of water with fish in it, like the pond inside the forest base camp. Hold LB/L1 to bring up the wheel, press B/Circle to cycle to the fishing rod in the bottom right corner of the UI. Hold LT/L2 to aim and press RT/R2 to cast near the fish. Once the fish bites, press RT/R2 to reel it in.
Monster (Squid) Hunter
15G – Caught a giant squid while fishing.
Work on Kanya’s side missions until she gives you the Tentacle Jig. Then travel to area 17 in Scarlet Forest, equip the jig, and set the time to evening or night. The giant squid should be swimming in the deep water opposite the waterfall. See A-fish-ionado below for details on how to catch whoppers.
A-fish-ionado
15G – Reeled in 30 whoppers while fishing.
Work on Kanya’s side missions until she gives you the Tentacle Jig. Then travel to area 17 in Scarlet Forest to farm 30 whoppers swimming in the deep water opposite the waterfall. Equip the Tentacle Jig to catch Goliath Squid at night or the Tuff Joint Bait to catch Gastronome Tuna during the day. Avoid wasting time on the Gajau. They are too picky when it comes to lures and are not worth the time. If you run out of fish, fast travel to another map, then return to the area 17 camp.
Catching Whoppers
Cast the lure near or just beyond the location of the whopper. Use the Left Stick to slightly move the lure. When the fish/squid bites, press RT/R2 to hook it. Then move the Left Stick in the direction the fish moves while continuing to hold RT/R2. If the fish gets too close to an obstacle, move the stick in the opposite direction to prevent it from crashing. When the fish stops moving, quickly move the stick in up and down. Eventually an animation will play of you reeling in the whopper. Repeat the process to catch 30 whoppers and track progress in the Aquatic Life Field Guide. The whoppers will be the last 3 entries.

After completing Chapter 2-3: Hopes of Home you should have enough points to place 3 camps each in Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, and Oilwell Basin.
