General Tips
- Combine Yellow Herbs with Green and Red and use the vial to permanently increase your maximum health and fully heal you when your health is low.
- Always purchase the treasure map (unless you’re going for Silent Stranger) and backtrack anytime you find a new key or unlock a new pathway.
- Don’t sell gems directly to the merchant. Instead, combine them with jewelry for increased selling value.
- Do your best in the shooting ranges early on, use the tokens to collect charms, and apply 3 charms to your case for bonus stats. Make sure you complete the shooting range with S in all challenges during Chapter 14 or 15.
- All playthrough stats can be tracked in the Challenges menu. Simply scroll down to view the one you are currently working toward. For example, if you’re trying for Minimalist, the count when Minimalist is selected in the Challenges menu should say 0. If it is greater than 0, you used another weapon.
- If you purchased the Deluxe Edition of Resident Evil 4, periodically check your map in the game for the additional treasures. These will help increase the ptas earned by selling to the merchant.

Chapter Achievements
Chapter 2
Knife Basics
20G – Parry an enemy with a knife.
Shortly after the start of Chapter 2, you will find a knife and the game will show you tutorials on stealth attacks and parrying. Simply press LB/L1 when the prompt appears on the screen and you will parry, unlocking the achievement/trophy.
Chapter 3
Shield Your Eyes
20G – Defeat 3 enemies at once with a flash grenade.
Near the start of Chapter 3 as you approach the Quarry (check your map), go to your inventory (Y/Triangle) and equip a Flash Grenade. Slowly approach the entry to the Quarry’s open area, aim (LT/L2) at the murder of crows on the left and throw the Flash Grenade (RT/R2).
Harpoon Hurler
20G – Defeat Del Lago.
Automatic story achievement/trophy that will pop after defeating Del Lago during Chapter 3. Press LB/L1 to aim and RT/R2 to throw the harpoon at Del Lago during the fight.
Chapter 6
Grilled Big Cheese
30G – Defeat Bitores Méndez.
Automatic story achievement/trophy that will pop after defeating Bitores Méndez during Chapter 6. During the 1st phase, climb the ladders to get to the upper floor. From there, get ready to parry (LB/L1) or dodge (B/Circle) when the prompt appears. Then, shoot the eye exposed on his back. Once enough damage is done, a new prompt will appear on the boss (RT/R2) which will do additional damage. Repeat the process until the cutscene moves you to the 2nd phase.
In phase 2, use the rifle or a handgun when Bitores Méndez is on the far end of the building. Watch for explosive barrels that you can shoot to take the boss down faster. When he moves in close, switch to a shotgun for more damage at a shorter range. Once enough damage is done, you will see the same prompt on the boss (RT/R2) to finish him off.

Chapter 7
Overkill
20G – Use a cannon to defeat a zealot.
When you reach the Castle Gate in Chapter 7, there will be 4 catapults firing at you. As you run up the winding stairs on the south, you will notice a cannon inside the tower (through the bars). Shoot the yellow counter-weight to release it. Then, make your way around to the top of that tower and activate the cannon. The achievement/trophy will unlock while you finish clearing out the zealots that are running around the area.

Never Heard It Coming
20G – Defeat a Garrador using only knives.
You will come across your 1st Garrador while exploring the Dungeons of the Castle in Chapter 7. Use crouch (B/Circle) to quietly move around the area while trying to avoid the chains hanging from the ceiling. Sneak up behind the Garrador and press RT/R2 to use one of your disposable knives to damage it. Then, immediately crouch and move away from it to get to safety. Repeat the process until the Garrador drops.

Chapter 10
Wave Goodbye, Right Hand
20G – Defeat the Verdugo.
At the end of Chapter 10, you will need to kill the Verdugo enemy chasing you in the corridors to unlock this achievement/trophy. Use the valves in the hallway to release liquid nitrogen to temporarily freeze Verdugo. While it is frozen, use a shotgun or other weapons that do significant damage to drop its health. When the nitrogen wears off, run to another valve and repeat the process.

Chapter 11
Hope You Like Thrill Rides!
20G – Make it through both minecart sections in the underground tunnel without taking any damage.
There are 2 minecart segments during Chapter 11 that you need to survive without taking any damage. If at any point, you see the cart’s health bar in the bottom right corner drop, make sure you reload your last auto-save.
While in the cart, lean left/right into each of the turns to prevent it from tipping over. If there is a wooden barrier in front of you, shoot it with your gun. If you see a track junction, make sure you also shoot it to change tracks. Finally, clear out each of the enemies before they can attack you. Most will drop quickly, but the chainsaw enemy will take many hits. Your goal with him is to make sure he is stun-locked when he is close enough to hit you.
Be mindful of explosive barrels throughout the area which can help clear debris and enemies quickly. Once you complete the 2nd minecart ride successfully without taking damage, the achievement/trophy will unlock.
Chapter 12
Capacity Compliance
20G – Reach the top of the clock tower without the lift stopping once.
While ascending the Clock Tower in Chapter 12, you will reach a point where there is a switch to activate an elevator (just after the switch that activates spiked boulders). The achievement/trophy will unlock if you are able to complete the elevator ride without any enemies getting on the elevator which causes it to stop. If that happens, immediately pause the game and load your last auto-save.
Make sure you have plenty of ammo. Something like an upgraded Riot Gun and TMP makes this a bit easier. If you’re struggling with this achievement/trophy, feel free to wait until New Game + when you have access to the Infinite Rocket Launcher.
You Talk Too Much!
20G – Throw a grenade into Ramón Salazar’s mouth.
When you fight Ramón Salazar at the end of Chapter 12, make sure you throw an explosive grenade in his mouth (weak spot). The best time to do this is when he is attached to the wall or the ceiling and spitting the black ooze at you. Strafe while aiming at his mouth and toss a grenade in. Reload your last save if you run out of grenades.
No Thanks, Bro!
30G – Defeat Ramón Salazar.
Automatic story achievement/trophy that will pop after defeating Ramón Salazar during Chapter 12. His weakness is the head/body inside the larger mouth. Wait for him to stop moving and open his mouth to spit. Then, shoot the weak spot with any high damage weapons (shotgun, SMG, etc.). Don’t forget to also throw grenades in its mouth for the You Talk Too Much achievement/trophy. To simplify the battle, consider purchasing a Rocket Launcher to take Salazar out in one hit after using grenades.
Chapter 13
Two Bugs, One Stone
20G – Kill 2 parasites inside a Regenerador with a single bullet.
After finding the Biosensor Scope in the Incubation Lab during Chapter 13, equip the part on one of your rifles. Check each of the 4 enemies in the incubators to see which one (random) has 2 parasites that can line up. Then, move around the incubation tank, lining up the parasites, and fire the rifle.
Chapter 14
You Used to Be a Good Guy
20G – Defeat Jack Krauser.
While fighting Jack Krauser in Chapter 14, you need to navigate your way through ruins while avoiding his attacks and disarming/destroying traps. Be ready to either parry (LB/L1) or dodge (B/Circle) his attacks when he sneaks up on you. Eventually you will reach a long open area where Krauser will shoot you while you hide behind short walls. When you reach the staircase, run and don’t stop since he will toss a few grenades on the stairs and you don’t want to get caught in their blast radius.
The final battle takes place in a small, circular arena with 2 levels and ladders. Parry/Dodge often and try to hit him with your knife (RT/R2) or something strong like a shotgun. When the game switches to a cutscene of him jumping to the upper level, immediately follow him up the ladder to avoid getting hit by a devastating attack that covers the lower level. Once he is down, the achievement/trophy will unlock.
Chapter 16
You’re Small Time!
50G – Defeat Osmund Saddler.
During the final boss fight with Osmund Saddler, shoot the eyes on his legs and do as much damage as you can (shotguns work great). When he drops down, make your way around to his head (if you’re in the back) and press RT/R2 to attack his head. He will eventually spawn the flying enemies which you will need to keep clear from you while he moves a great distance away. This can take a long time unless you have a rifle and can hit one of the eyes on his legs from the distance. If you do, he will immediately return and continue the fight.
Once enough damage is done, Saddler will move to his final phase where he will encircle you with tentacles and try smashing you with 2 of them. Attack the eye and do as much damage as you can while dodging (B/Circle his tentacle swings. Eventually, Ada with throw you a Special Rocket Launcher which you can fire at the big eye to finish him off.
You can skip the first phase of this fight by bringing your own Rocket Launcher. At the start of the battle move out of the way before he jumps down to your platform, then hit him with the launcher.
Smooth Escape
20G – Escape on the water scooter without taking any damage.
After defeating Saddler during Chapter 16, you will need to escape the island on a water scooter with Ashley. Don’t worry about time, the game gives you plenty of it. Take your time while avoiding the obstacles (don’t hold down the throttle 100% of the time) and you will easily unlock this achievement/trophy. You are allowed to scrape against some objects, but if you see the health bar of the water scooter in the bottom right corner drop, immediately load the last auto-save and continue.

A Masterpiece
20G – Get the exclusive upgrade for a weapon.
Once a weapon is fully upgraded, the merchant will offer a final upgrade for 100,000 ptas or an exclusive upgrade ticket (30 spinels). It’s recommended that you upgrade both a handgun and the Primal Knife for the Minimalist achievement/trophy.
Quests
Nice One, Stranger!
20G – Complete a request for the Merchant.
See Jack of All Trades below for details.
Jack of All Trades
30G – Complete all requests from the Merchant.
Throughout the game, you will see blue pieces of paper hanging on walls either near the merchant or is certain areas of the game. Interact with it to start the side quest. They usually consist of killing certain enemies or finding and selling specific treasures to the merchant.
Shooting Range
Amateur Shooter
20G – Complete a game at the shooting range.
Simply play and finish any challenge at 1 of the 5 shooting ranges and this achievement/trophy will unlock. Shooting ranges are found by taking the elevator next to the merchant in Chapters 3, 9, 11, 14, and 15.
Refer to Real Deadeye below for a full video guide.
Trick Shot
20G – Destroy 5 targets at the shooting range with one shot.
When you reach the shooting range in Chapter 14, you will gain access to challenge 4-C which includes multiple lines of pirates. Simply use the rifle (D-Pad Left) when you see them line up and position yourself on the left, right, or center so you have a clear shot down the line and aim for the head (will also hit the barrels if they are up).
Refer to Real Deadeye below for a full video guide.

Real Deadeye
50G – Earn an S rank in all games at the shooting range.
Of the Resident Evil 4 achievements/trophies in the remake, this is one of the more difficult ones to unlock. You will need to complete each of the 12 shooting range challenges to reveal the bonus condition for each. Once you know the condition, you will need to meet the criteria to unlock the bonus round (except for 4-C), giving you a chance to rack up a higher score, boosting it from an A rank to S. The bonus conditions are usually for killing all pirates, killing them in a specific amount of time, or killing them within a specified number of shots.
Shooting ranges are found by taking the elevator next to the merchant in Chapters 3, 9, 11, 14, and 15.

Make sure to use Ashley’s Armor (unlocked by getting A rank on Hardcore/Professional) and get the Chicago Sweeper (unlocked by getting A rank on Professional) upgrades as quickly as possible.
This does not stack with S+ Rank Investigator.
Refer to the Resident Evil 4 Recommended Playthroughs Guide for more details.

Professional Difficulty
Peerless Agent
50G – Complete the main story on Professional mode.
This achievement can be done while playing on NG+. Save this for at least your 2nd NG+ so you should have enough to purchase the Infinite Rocket Launcher, making this run significantly easier. You won’t have access to the launcher during the fish boss, minecart sequences, and the first encounter with Krauser.
Watch out for Ashley’s location. Unless you do an optional NG+ Hardcore A-Rank run to unlock the Ashley’s Armor, she will die if she gets caught in the blast radius of the launcher.
Refer to the Resident Evil 4 Recommended Playthroughs Guide for more details.
Conditional Playthroughs
Minimalist
30G – Complete the main story using only knives and handguns. (Excluding specific battles.)
Focus on Minimalist while playing on NG+ with a maxed out Primal Knife (collect all Castellans to unlock) and a maxed out handgun. If you can, try to carry over handgun ammo and healing items from the previous playthrough. There are a few exceptions to the knife/handgun rule, listed below:
- Explosive barrels will not void the achievement
- Chapter 3: Use the Harpoon during the boss fight
- Chapter 7 & 8: Castle cannons
- Chapter 15: Mounted machine guns on the island
- Chapter 16: Special Rocket Launcher during the final boss fight
Refer to the Resident Evil 4 Recommended Playthroughs Guide for more details.
Frugalist
30G – Complete the main story without using a recovery item.
Completing a dedicated playthrough for Frugalist is quick if you only focus on not using health items and play NG+ on Assisted difficulty with the Infinite Rocket Launcher and Ashley’s Armor. You are allowed to repair your body armor without voiding the challenge.
Refer to the Resident Evil 4 Recommended Playthroughs Guide for more details.
Silent Stranger
30G – Complete the main story without talking to the Merchant once.
Combine this playthrough with the Minimalist. You shouldn’t need to use the merchant while focused on knife/handgun if you have the Primal Knife maxed out (indestructible).
Refer to the Resident Evil 4 Recommended Playthroughs Guide for more details.
Sprinter
30G – Complete the main story within 8 hours.
This will unlock while working on the additional playthroughs. It is required for the S+ rank achievements/trophies, and can also be earned while playing NG+ for Minimalist and Silent Stranger, or a playthrough with an infinite weapon.
Refer to the Resident Evil 4 Recommended Playthroughs Guide for more details.
