- Place a Portcrystal at the Sphynx’s location and remember to grab it when you finish. Fast travel as often as possible.

- Remove the Ring of Derision after completing the riddle that equips it.
- Make sure you have the Archer vocation active before solving the 10th puzzle. You will need to use the Unmaking Arrow reward to defeat the Sphynx for the final prize.
1st Location – Mountain Shrine
Successfully complete all 10 riddles of the Sphynx. The Sphynx is initially found in the Mountain Shrine which is accessible through the Ancient Battleground north of Checkpoint Rest Town. Work your way through the caves until shortly after passing through an open area with 2 large elites. At the top of the broken staircase, you will find the Sphynx.

#1: Riddle of Eyes
After hearing the riddle, head into the nearby entrance that just opened up. Once inside, ascend the rocks on the right side of the cave immediately after entering it and open the chest above the doorway. Take the Sealing Phial and return to the Sphynx. Choose the Sealing Phial and you will be rewarded with a Wakestone in the 1st chest behind the Sphynx.
#2: Riddle of Madness
For the Riddle of Madness, you need to present your primary pawn to the Sphynx. Pick up (RT/R2) him or her and place them either on the platform in front of the Sphynx or just to the side of the platform. Converse with the Sphynx again and choose “Answer” followed by “Yes“. After solving the riddle, open the 2nd chest for a Portcrystal.
#3: Riddle of Wisdom
To solve the Riddle of Wisdom, you need to present one of the parents of the Sphynx. Travel to the following location to summon the pawn.

Before interacting with the Riftstone of Fellowship, go into Options – Network and disable Network Features. Next, interact with the riftstone and summon the Sphynx Parent/Mother/Father. Return to the Sphynx, pick up (RT/R2) the new pawn and place them on or next to the platform in front of the Sphynx. Talk with the Sphynx again and choose “Answer“. Once the riddle concludes, open the 3rd chest for 1200 RC. Now you can feel free to turn Network Features back on.
#4: Riddle of Conviction
During the Riddle of Conviction, the Sphynx will duplicate your most prized possession. It’s highly recommended that you use a Portcrystal to answer the riddle, so you can receive another for free. After completing the riddle, open the 4th chest.
#5: Riddle of Rumination
The Riddle of Rumination requires you to return to the location of the 1st Seeker’s Token you found. If you didn’t remember where it was, you may need to save this for your New Game+ playthrough.
Before leaving, make sure you have a Portcrystal (from the 2nd chest) positioned at the base of the final staircase leading to the Sphynx. Return to the place where you found your 1st Seeker’s Token and collect the Finder’s Token at the location. Then, fast travel back to the Sphynx to complete the riddle and open the 5th chest for 3 Ferrystones.
The Sphynx will fly off to the next shrine. Grab the Portcrystal so you can place it at the next location.
2nd Location – Frontier Shrine
The 2nd home of the Sphynx is in the Frontier Shrine. Follow the river near Checkpoint Rest Town toward the west. While traveling through a narrow pass, take the path on the left which leads directly to the shrine of the Sphynx. Remember to place a Portcrystal to speed up returning here during the riddles.

#6: Riddle of Reunion
Finding the Sphynx at the 2nd location will solve the 6th riddle and reward you with 100k gold in the 1st chest.
Important: From this point on, all riddles will be given in a random order. Be ready to respond to any of them, and keep track of how many you have completed.
Important: Before starting the 10th and final riddle, make sure you have the Archer vocation active. You will travel for these riddles a few times, make sure you change vocations if needed.
#7-10: Riddle of Contest
At the start of this riddle, the Sphynx will place the Ring of Derision on you which negates all damage that you deal. Leave the ring on for now. Run up to the enemy, grab (RT/R2) them, and throw (RB/R1) them over the edge to solve the puzzle. Then, collect the Ring of Ambition in the next chest.
Important: Make sure you remove the Ring of Derision or you will no longer deal damage in the game with your main character.
#7-10: Riddle of Recollection
Place 1 statue on or near the platform for every riddle you have completed (6, 7, 8, or 9 statues) successfully. Then, talk with the Sphynx and choose “Answer” and “Yes” to finish the puzzle. After completing the riddle, open the next chest for a Unmaking Arrow. This is required for the Raising the Dead achievement/trophy later in the guide.

#7-10: Riddle of Futility
To solve the Riddle of Futility, you need to bring the fragile vase to Maurits which is an impossible task. Instead, fast travel to Bakbattahl, grab (RT/R2) Maurits at the following location near the Sphynx mural, carry him toward the stairs, fast travel back to the Sphynx, and place him near the vase.
Be careful not to get too close or it may break when you drop him. You may need to put him down far away and pick him up again so he doesn’t struggle too close to the vase. Once the riddle is solved, open the next chest for an Eternal Bond.
#7-10: Riddle of Differentiation
Important: Before starting the 10th and final riddle, make sure you have the Archer vocation active.
To solve the Riddle of Differentiation, you need to find an NPC who is a twin. The primary difference between the twins is their hair. One will have slightly wavy/curly hair while the other’s hair is straight. Pay close attention to which twin is shown to you.

Then, fast travel to Checkpoint Rest Town. Before solving the riddle, rest in the local inn just in case you need to reload the save. Dante has straight hair and wanders around the markets near the oxcart. Vergil is on the south side of the large gate leading to the desert area.
When you’re sure you have the right twin, grab (RT/R2) him, fast travel back to the Sphynx, and place him on or near the platform. Interact with the Sphynx and choose “Answer” followed by “Yes“. Solving the riddle will unlock the next chest for a Whimsical Daydream.
Fighting the Sphynx
Completing the 10th puzzle will unlock the Full Marks achievement or trophy.
Full Marks
90G – Found a solution to every conundrum posed by the goddess of riddles.
Before you open the final chest, attack the Sphynx with a standard attack (X/Square) before it flies away. This will initiate a challenge from the Sphynx and will start the battle. Wait for the Sphynx to teleport to a new location, then equip (must not be moving to equip) the Unmaking Arrow, aim a steady shot (RB/R1), and fire it at the Sphynx.

Doing so will end the fight and the Sphynx will drop the Key of Sagacity which opens the large chest containing the Eternal Wakestone.
Raising the Dead
Before completing all the 10th riddle from the Sphynx, make sure you change to the Archer vocation. After completing the final riddle, the Sphynx will start to fly away. Immediately start attacking with the X/Square button to officially start a fight. Wait until you have a clear shot, then equip the Unmaking Arrow (reward from the riddles), aim with RB/R1, and use it to defeat the creature. Doing so will reward you with the key to open the final chest containing the Eternal Wakestone.
If you have a morgue with 2+ bodies, stand outside it and use the stone. Otherwise, travel to the market on the west side of Bakbattahl. Next, grab (RT/R2) 2 citizens and throw (RB/R1) them off the side of the broken bridge. Once you confirm they’re dead, head down to their bodies and use the Eternal Wakestone to raise them for the achievement/trophy.
Reaper’s Scorn
30G – Accomplished a miracle for several people all at once.
