Diablo 4 Achievements Guide

Welcome to the Diablo 4 achievements guide covering the 25 achievements and trophies in the base game at launch. Most will unlock by sticking with a single character class and playing the bulk of the game with them.

Game Stats

  • Difficulty: 7.5/10
  • Time to Completion: 100+ hours
  • Does Difficulty Affect Achievements/Trophies?: Yes. True Perseverance requires hitting level 50 on Hardcore.
  • Missable Achievements/Trophies: None.

Recommended Playthrough

  • Create one of each class and play through far enough to unlock the class-specific achievements and trophies. The first 4 classes should unlock in a total of a few hours while skipping conversations/cutscenes. The Barbarian skill will take time a bit more time, so we will save it for last.
    • Start with the Sorcerer since their achievement/trophy simply unlocks after 100 kills.
    • Next, play as the Druid since you can focus on one form Werewolf/Werebear, then switch your skill tree after 50+ kills.
    • Then, play as the Rogue focusing on a mix of 50 short-range and 50 long-range kills.
    • Choose the Necromancer next and make sure you use the Book of the Dead to sacrifice your minions to reset your pool and let summoning count.
    • Save Barbarian for last, since Berserking is a situational state.
  • Next, choose your favorite class and play through level 100.
  • Finally, start a Hardcore character and play through level 50.

General Tips

  • Consider playing to level 50 on World Tier 1. WT2 does not provide significant rewards, but will increase the difficulty. The goal is to hit the end game in WT3/4 as fast as possible.
  • Complete the first 2 stages of each region’s challenges to unlock an additional potion slot. When you reach level 20, you should be able to survive running around the majority of the map, collecting waypoints and Altars of Lilith. Doing so will give you a pool of 9 potion slots and will make the rest of the game much easier.
  • Salvage items you no longer need which contain a new cosmetic look (hammer symbol in the corner) so you can use them to customize your character in the wardrobe.
  • Always fill sockets with gems, you can pull them out for a low cost with the Jeweler before selling/salvaging when you move on.
  • Dungeons throughout the world contain Aspects which can be inscribed on rare items to make them legendary. Each aspect can be used as many times as needed and will unlock for all characters.
  • The mount quest will not unlock until the start of Act 4 in the story, so focus on the story quests if you want the mount faster.
  • All progression carries over into Nightmare and Torment. There’s no replaying the story on each difficulty like the previous games. As the difficulty increases to World Tier 3 & 4, so do the XP and rewards.

End Game Tips

  • Combine farming Aspects and Chaotic Whispers by choosing dungeons currently marked for the Tree of Whispers that still contain a new Aspect. Every 2 dungeons will result in a new reward from the tree. Choose the Collection of Chaos option as often as you can until you have collected 10.
  • Use Nightmare Sigils to increase the difficulty and rewards of dungeons in World Tiers 3 & 4.
  • Participate in all World Boss fights as they come up. The rewards are worth going out of your way and spending a few minutes with the other players.
  • Once you reach Nightmare difficulty, work on getting the region completion ranks up to 5 to unlock more Paragon Points.

Any Character

Dedicated Protector

15G – Reach Level 50 with any character.

If this achievement/trophy has not unlocked by the time you complete the main story, focus on unlocking any Aspects needed for your class while doing the Tree of Whispers bounties. While playing the game, try to keep an elixir active at all times to maintain bonus XP.

Devoted Protector

100G – Reach Level 100 with any character.

Always keep an elixir active while playing the game to increase XP gained by 5%. Once you reach level 50, complete the capstone dungeon to unlock World Tier 3. Continue working on all other achievements/trophies and clearing out dungeons. The end game in Diablo IV is a long grind and can quickly get repetitive. Try to mix things up and play with friends when possible.

There are 115 Codex of Power Aspects scattered throughout the map in dungeons. They can be tracked individually on the Collections – Codex of Power menu and you can select one to set a waypoint to its location on the map. Completing dungeons will also help progress each region and will ultimately add more skill and paragon points. These can be paired with Tree of Whispers requests by prioritizing unfinished dungeons that reside in the marked regions. Dungeons with new Aspects can also be earned by activating Sigils in World Tier 3+ to increase the difficulty and rewards. Focus on running dungeons that are higher level than you to increase XP earned.

After reaching level 60, you will have the option to complete the next capstone dungeon to unlock World Tier 4. If you’re unable to finish at level 60, continue leveling and upgrading your gear. If you can create a party with friends, they can help clear the dungeon with you.

Hardcore Characters

True Perseverence

75G – Reach Level 50 with a Hardcore character.

Warning: At launch the game may crash and online stability is spotty, so you may lose a high level Hardcore character to bugs in the game.

Take your time with Hardcore characters. It’s recommended you complete the story with a standard character, giving you the option to skip the story/bosses with your Hardcore character and access to the mount from the start. Any region bonuses earned on Hardcore characters will also apply to new HC characters. So, if you unlock skill points and potion slots on a HC character that died, the next HC character created will also have these benefits.

It’s also recommended to play on World Tier 1 to reduce damage taken from enemies. Keep elixirs active at all times to increase XP gained by 5%. Try avoiding world bosses (can 1-shot many classes) and dungeons with boss rooms that lock you into a small space. Be aware that the Butcher can and will show up in dungeons and it will be difficult to solo or escape his reach.

Tree of Whispers requests are a good way to level. Having completed the story with another character, you will have access to the tree’s waypoint from the start of the game.

You may find Scrolls of Escape while exploring the world. These are rare drops and will help get out of dangerous situations by quickly teleporting you to safety.

Near the start of your first HC character, you will find the recipe for Elixir of Death Evasion which allows you to craft special elixirs that prevent death one time for 30 minutes. These require rare materials to craft, so decide wisely when you will activate them.

Master of Elements

25G – Kill 100 enemies with Fire, Frost, or Lightning damage as a Sorcerer.

This will easily unlock part way through the prologue while playing as the Sorcerer. Simply kill 100 enemies with your elemental spells. It’s recommended you choose a single target element for your basic attack and an area of effect spell of a different element for your first non-basic (chain lightning is helpful early on).

Shifty Swipes

25G – Kill 50 enemies in Werebear form and 50 enemies in Werewolf form as a Druid.

When you reach level 2 as a Druid, choose either Claw (Werewolf) or Maul (Werebear) and upgrade it as you level up. Start counting the number of kills using your chosen form. Once you reach 60 kills (to be safe), refund the skill points (X/Square) and choose the other basic skill. This will ensure you finish the achievement/trophy as quickly as possible. It should unlock part way through the prologue, likely around the time you first encounter spiders in the cave.

In and Out

25G – Kill 50 enemies in Melee range and 50 enemies out of melee range as a Rogue.

This should unlock near the end of the prologue as you make your way to the city or shortly after. Simply kill 50 enemies up close and 50 at a distance. It doesn’t matter if you use melee weapons or your bow/crossbow for the melee range kills.

Army of Bones

25G – Summon 100 Skeleton Mages or Warriors as a Necromancer.

This one isn’t as clear on the execution. In order for the achievement/trophy to unlock, you need to raise skeletons with Y/Triangle. Once you hit your limit, pressing the button again does not produce a new minion. After unlocking the Book of the Dead, go into the book, select your minion type and change your minions, sacrificing the current ones and opening up the slots for new ones. This is best done when you have 4-5 corpses nearby to replenish your army. Also, selecting the first option for the upgrades allows you to summon 1 additional skeleton.

Diablo 4 Achievements - Army of Bones

Hammer Down

25G – Kill 50 enemies while Berserking as a Barbarian.

Save the Barbarian for last since it will take longer to unlock due to berserk status being conditional. Starting with your first skill point, unlock Lunging Strike followed by Enhanced Lunging Strike and Combat Lunging Strike to give you access to berserking.

Living Nightmares

50G – Complete a Sacred and Ancestral Nightmare Dungeon.

Nightmare Dungeons are activated by using a Nightmare Sigil in the Consumables tab of the inventory. Each sigil comes in various tiers and will detail the conditional changes in the dungeon.
